First I created an oval, and flattened it out with the stretch tool. I then created a sphere and did the same. I applied the chrome finish to the oval to form the saucer body, and the blue glass material to the oval for the dome. I then joined the two objects together.

The red lights were created from a sphere with the red plastic texture that I cloned several times. They were then placed into the main object to give the appearance of lights.

Finally, I put the completed ship over the supplied star field background, and adjusted the saucer's angle for effect.
