Expert Tips and Tricks

Here are a few features of Outlook and Outlook Express that you can incorporate in your Designer Stationery to help you create impressive customized emails.

Include Hyperlinks (to link to other web pages, email addresses ) in your emails –
As you may know, you can designate an image or portion of text in your email as a hyperlink so that clicking on the link will take your internet connection to an email address, Web page, or Web site. Words or phrases which serve as links are underlined and appear in a different color. Images that serve as links have a border around them, or they change the cursor to a little hand as it passes over them. To convert selected text or an image to serve as a hyperlink, make sure the text or image is highlighted (selected), then click Insert->Hyperlink menu item or ‘ Insert Link ' button in the Extended tool bar.

Use the Marquee tool to apply animated effects to selected text or graphics in your email –
A Marquee is a rectangular banner region of moving/scrolling content. The Marquee tool allows many different movement behaviors for selected text or graphics content, such as scrolling, sliding, or alternating visibility. PowerPlugs: Stationery Designer provides an easy to use interface to apply Marquee action to selected text or images in your designer stationery.

Once you apply marquee animation to selected content, if you want to make further changes, such as apply a different colored background to the Marquee effect, insert an image file in the Marquee banner, or perhaps change style / direction of the text, just activate the right mouse button and click on properties. The Marquee menu will then display and allow you to edit the applied effects.

Preview Image –
Before inserting image(s) into your stationery you can preview the images to see what the image looks like. There is also a button to ‘Show actual size'.

Image Editing –
A simple yet powerful image editing tool is available in Stationery Designer. To invoke this tool, select the image you want to edit. Then select the Edit>Image process… menu item or press Image process button in the extended tool bar.

The following features are available in this interface:

Brightness
Contrast
Sharpen
Noise
Emboss
Negative
Grayscale
Compress

Crop and Flip images –
PowerPlugs: Stationery Designer offers a useful tool to crop images. Using this tool you can trim the area of an image to display only what you want. In order to do so, select the image first and click on the ‘Crop' button in the Extended tool bar or select the ‘Crop Image' from Edit menu item. As soon as you click on this button, a selection rectangle will be shown arround the image. You place the cursor on this rectangle to edit the image.

Flipping creates a horizontal or vertical reflection of an image. PowerPlugs: Stationery Designer supplies two buttons to filp images. The buttons ‘Flip Horizontal' and ‘Flip Vertical' are shown in the Extended tool bar or you can select this option from the Edit menu item.

Change font color and size –
All system fonts are available in Stationery Designer. Select any font available from the font combo box in the Formatting tool bar. In order to change the font, select the text then change the font type in the font combo box.

Preview in browser –
Once you have designed your stationery, you can preview the stationery in a browser window to see what it looks like.

Formatting messages –
Stationery Designer provides many buttons that allow you to align and format the messages you will write and send to others. Use the ‘Formatting' toolbar to select the font type, color, size, style and alignment of the text your stationery will display in written messages.

You can also set the left, right, top, and bottom margins for your email message(s).

Preferences –
Use this settings to define how many recently used files should be shown. The ‘Most Recently Used' file list will display in the File menu. This offers an easy way to select and open a recently used stationery in Stationery Designer .

Forgot to Save?
PowerPlugs: Stationery Designer offers an excellent feature that saves your designer stationery automatically. Even if you forget to save a newly designed stationery template, Stationery Designer will do the job for you! In order to do so, enable (by placing a check mark) the ‘Automatically save after <Mins> minutes' option in the Preferences dialog and set frequency (in time) that you want the automatic save feature to save your work .

Create new Stationery from within Outlook / Outlook Express
It's
easy to create stationery right from within Outlook/Outlook Express (through PowerPlugs: Stationery Picker). Click on the New... button in the PowerPlugs: Stationery Picker dialog. It will launch the Stationery Designer startup wizard. Follow the wizard instructions. In the last dialog of the wizard, be sure to click the ‘Save and Exit to Outlook' or 'Save and exit to Outlook Express' button.

If you want to cancel the wizard and use Stationery Designer's tools in your own way to create stationery, after finishing all edits, click ‘Save and exit to Outlook' or 'Save and exit to Outlook Express' in the File menu.

Edit stationery from within Outlook / Outlook Express
Editing stationery from within Outlook/Outlook Express can be done very easily. When the PowerPlugs: Stationery Picker dialog is displayed, click the Edit... button. This will automatically launch PowerPlugs: Stationery Designer. From there, you can use the editing tools available in Stationery Designer to make changes as you wish. And, when ready, click the ‘Save and exit to Outlook' or 'Save and exit to Outlook Express' item in the File menu.

You must enter some text in the Stationery-enhanced emails that you send to others–
If someone receives a Stationery-enhanced email from you, but it does not display the graphic (images) in the email (only a box with a red X shows where the image “should be”), you may have sent the email without any text entry in the body of the email message. (You may be able to send a “blank” email message to yourself and see the graphics just fine because your Outlook/Outlook Express application can locate the graphic image files associated with your stationery on your computer. But, when you are preparing to send a stationery-enhanced email to someone else, the graphics associated with the stationery do not become embedded in the email until you've entered some text in the body of the email.) So, make sure you enter some text in the body of your email message before you send your stationery-enhanced email to others.
